Yes they are mobile and can be moved pretty much anywhere. Due to their design and construction they can be transported by road or rail without the need for any special permits or wide load documentation.
Our container homes come with compliance certificates for council and in some cases no approval is required.
We recommend speaking to your local council to discuss the requirements for your area or get in touch with us on 0800 285 555.
Depending on your location and local requirements, there are many different options available including fully certified footings systems. It can be as simple as using sleepers or concrete blocks, timber/steel posts (4-6 req) or engineered, NZ Code approved alternatives. Please contact us for more info.
Each container home comes completely ready to be ‘plugged in’ to services like water, sewerage, electricity and other plumbing in the exact same way a traditionally built house would.
Our container homes do not come pre-installed with a hot water system. This allows you the freedom to choose a system that best suits your needs, whether electric or gas, instant or stored. Please note that installation of a hot water system may require additional plumbing and electrical work which will need to be done by qualified professionals.
One of the most common concerns about container homes is that they may be too hot or too cold, due to the perceived lack of insulation. However, properly insulated container homes do not have this problem. In fact, they are often more comfortable than traditional homes, as they can be better insulated against both heat and cold. All of our builds are highly insulated and include a moisture barrier which prevents ‘container sweats’ or condensation build up on the inside of the container.
Double glazing is also standard in all of our homes.
Container homes are also known for their low impact on the environment, as they use far less energy to heat and cool than traditional homes. As a result, container homes are an increasingly popular choice for those looking for an eco-friendly, energy-efficient way to live.
Yes, that is exactly one of the most significant advantages of a container home compared to trailer-based tiny houses. Containers are fabricated in a shape that makes it easy to connect multiple containers together. So if you decide to grow your home, you just add one more container to an existing structure and get extra space almost immediately.
Container homes are made of special weathering steel which doesn’t allow surface rust to penetrate container walls. This makes them an ideal choice for areas where humidity and salt air are a concern. Container homes are also easier to maintain than traditional homes, as they require no painting or staining. As a result, container homes offer a unique and durable solution for those looking for an alternative to highly demanding traditional housing.
A well constructed container house ought to last for at least 25 years with proper care and maintenance. When kept rust-free or clad with an external wood layer (or another protective material), custom container homes can last even longer. To care for your container house, inspect the structure regularly and treat any rust spots as quickly as possible.
